Music Video Awards Becoming More Popular

The UK Music Video Awards 2009 is reporting a 15% increase in the number of entries for the ceremony next month.

Promo News editor and MVA editorial director David Knight says there has been an enthusiastic response to the introduction of new awards for the direction of live music performance, and music ads, as well as a number of projects in the Innovation award category.

He adds, “The newly introduced awards account for some of the increase in the entry numbers, but the MVAs is very important to the British music video industry for lots of reasons. It’s the one real chance of the year for everyone to celebrate the art and craft and creativity of British music videos, and hand out prizes to some very talented people – who also play an important part in the British music business. That’s why the MVAs is generating so much interest and excitement this year.”

The MVAs has also confirmed a new partnership with leading London studio facilities, Metropolis as sponsors of the Best Commissioner award at the ceremony. As part of their sponsorship, Metropolis will be offering the winning commissioner a chance to use its facilities for a forthcoming production.

Metropolis managing director Ian Brenchley says, “There are very few creative events in the industry calendar that allow likeminded people and companies to share their new ideas and visions like the MVAs will do this year.”

The first round of judging by more than 200 Jury Members will begin next week, and shortlists will be finalised in mid-September.
