Ofcom Report Shows Booming Communications Industry in the UK
Ofcom recently published its annual Communications Market Report, which focuses on the UK’s communication industry, including the radio, television, broadband, telecoms and mobile markets.
The report highlights the growth of the communications industry, which is worth a staggering £52 billion now. Even though the market went through one of its worst phases with the recent recession, the report shows that the total influx of money into the industry has increased. This proves that people are willing to compromise on other amenities like eating out and splurging on vacations than on their mobile and broadband needs.
Mobile broadband has boomed with almost 250,000 mobile broadband signups made in the month of May alone. The report also stated that almost 12 per cent of UK households had got a mobile broadband connection by the end of first quarter of the year 2009. Three fourth of these households also had an existing fixed-line connection, which goes to show that people consider mobile broadband to be an additional service popular (take a look at Virgin Media Mobile Broadband for instance) to go with the fixed-line connection.
Overall, the report shows that people are willing to spend money on mobile and broadband services even if times gets rough, but there is also evidence that they try and save by opting for bundled services instead of stand-alone offers.
