Skiing Reductions Are to Be Booked Thanks to the Recession

would you believe the pound is fetching a little less than the euro at currency exchanges, you’d reckon that there would be lots of excellent bargains to be had in alpine ski resorts this winter as potential skiers stay at home to combat the recession. Provisional facts recently publicized highlight that ski areas are 87 % full during the Xmas and New year time period. 11 percent up on the self same period of time a year ago.

You will have better luck in early 2009 which presently has a 38 % booking rate. The only signs of a downturn is across the significant February holiday month which has 66 % bookings, 3 % less than last season. Booking desks in the resorts of Super Besse, Montroc, Val Cenis and Meribel have noted good inquiries during November encouraged by the excellent early on winter snow. Courchevel has better inquiries in comparison to Chamonix, whilst Araches-la-Frasse had an excellent New Year and Christmas.

But there is substantial demand for bigger accommodation, 7 to 11 places, as skiers group together to save the pennies. Early evidence highlights that DIY ski breaks are holding up, perhaps pointing to the fact that earnest skiers will not lose their ski break. However reservations from package ski holidays are down on last year.
